If you used vidyo.ai a couple of years ago, you have already met quso.ai — it is the same company under a new name. Its core job is turning long videos (podcasts, streams, webinars, YouTube videos) into short captioned clips, and it has grown into scheduling and planning too. This guide explains the free plan, the credit system and the three paid tiers in plain numbers, so you can tell whether you need to pay.
How quso.ai credits work
quso.ai's pricing FAQ says it simply: one credit ≈ one minute of processed video, and clipping, captioning and editing all draw from your monthly credits. So the number you care about is "how many minutes of source video do I upload per month?"
- One 60-minute podcast episode ≈ 60 credits.
- Four weekly episodes ≈ 240 credits → that is Essential territory, not Lite.
- Captioning a 1-minute short you already cut ≈ 1 credit.
The free plan: what's included
| Free plan feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Credits | 75 per month |
| Export quality | 720p, with a quso.ai watermark |
| Formats | 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 clips; chapters and short videos |
| Publishing | TikTok publishing |
| CutMagic (AI editing) | On your first 3 videos |
| Data retention | 7 days |
| Subtitles | Burned-in captions on the video; SRT download is paid-only |
Who it's enough for: someone testing whether AI clipping finds good moments in their content, or a creator who only posts to TikTok and doesn't mind 720p plus a watermark while they validate an idea. Who it's not enough for: anyone publishing clean, branded clips — the watermark alone rules that out.
Paid plans compared
| Lite | Essential | Growth | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly billing | $29 / month | $39 / month | $49 / month |
| Credits (≈ minutes) | 100 | 300 | 600 |
| Export | Unlimited 1080p clips, no watermark | Same | Same |
| Editor | Advanced video editor (desktop) | Same | Same |
| Publishing | TikTok | Schedule to 7 platforms | Schedule to 7 platforms |
| AI filler & silence removal | — | Yes | Yes |
| Content planner | — | Yes | Yes |
| Brand kit, templates, analytics | — | — | Yes (plus Viddy AI assistant, priority support) |
| Storage | 10 GB | 25 GB | 75 GB |
Cost per minute, roughly
| Plan | $/month | Minutes | ≈ $ per minute |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | $29 | 100 | $0.29 |
| Essential | $39 | 300 | $0.13 |
| Growth | $49 | 600 | $0.08 |
The jump from Lite to Essential is only $10 but triples the minutes. If you upload more than about 100 minutes a month, Essential is usually the better deal.
quso.ai as a subtitle generator
quso.ai's subtitle generator turns the speech in a video into timed, editable subtitles in 99 languages (Chinese included), with 10 caption styles. Videos can run up to 5 hours. Two limits matter:
- It does not translate. Subtitles come out in the language that is spoken. For dual-language captions you need a separate translation step — see my English + Chinese bilingual subtitles guide.
- SRT download is paid-only (Lite and up). There is no VTT export; convert the SRT if a platform needs VTT.
Who quso.ai is (and isn't) for
Good fit
- Podcasters, streamers and YouTubers who want many shorts from one long recording.
- Solo creators who want clipping, captions and scheduling in one place instead of three tools.
- People who post square or landscape clips to LinkedIn or X as well as vertical shorts (all three ratios are on every plan).
Not the best fit
- If you only need flashy captions on short clips you've already cut, a finishing tool like Submagic is more focused.
- If you need clips from fast-paced, visual content (gaming, comedy timing), any AI clipper will need manual trimming. Reddit users say the same about every tool in this category: AI finds candidate moments, a human picks the good ones.
How to test quso.ai properly on the free plan
A free plan is only useful if you test it on the kind of content you'll really publish. Here is the routine I'd follow with the free credits, so that you can make a clear yes/no decision before paying anything:
- Pick one typical recording, not your best one. If you usually upload a 40-minute podcast with two speakers, test exactly that. A clean, single-speaker demo video will make any AI clipper look better than it will be in daily use.
- Let the AI suggest clips and write down how many of them you would actually post, even after small fixes. This "usable clip rate" is the number that matters, not the total number of clips generated.
- Time your fixes. For each usable clip, note how long you spent adjusting the start and end, fixing caption errors and re-framing speakers. If a clip takes ten minutes to fix, the tool is only saving you part of the work.
- Check the captions word by word, especially names, brand terms and numbers. Speech recognition is very good now, but it still mishears proper nouns, and a wrong name in a caption looks careless.
- Watch on a phone. Captions, framing and pacing feel different on a 6-inch screen than in a desktop editor. Check that captions don't sit under the TikTok or Reels buttons.
Then do a simple calculation. If you'd post, say, 8 clips a month from 4 recordings, work out the total minutes you'd upload and match it to a plan using the 1 credit ≈ 1 minute rule above. Remember the free plan only keeps files for 7 days, so download anything you want to keep.
Free and cheaper alternatives to consider
To be fair to your budget: you don't strictly need an AI clipper. Many editors (me included) still cut clips manually in a free editor like CapCut, using the transcript to find good moments quickly. That costs time instead of money. AI clippers make the most sense when you have a lot of long-form footage and little time. If you only publish one or two shorts a week from short recordings, a free editor plus free auto-captions is often enough — and you can always come back to quso.ai when your volume grows.
My honest take
AI clipping is a first pass, not a finished edit. In my own editing work, auto-picked clips are a useful shortlist, but clip start/end points, speaker framing and caption mistakes still need a human check. quso.ai's free plan is generous enough to test that on your real content — do that before paying. If the first 75 minutes give you clips you'd actually post after light fixes, Essential is the plan most regular podcasters end up on.
FAQ
Is quso.ai the same as vidyo.ai?
Yes. quso.ai describes itself as "formerly vidyo.ai", and its pricing page notes that existing Vidyo.ai plans and prices were unchanged by the rebrand.
Does the free plan have a watermark?
Yes — 720p with a quso.ai watermark. Paid plans export 1080p without it.
Can I cancel anytime?
quso.ai's FAQ says plans are month-to-month (or annual) and can be cancelled whenever you like.
Is 75 free minutes a month enough?
For testing, yes. For a weekly hour-long podcast, no — you'd need about 240+ credits a month.
How does quso.ai compare with OpusClip?
OpusClip is cheaper to start ($15/month for 150 credits), while quso.ai has the bigger free plan and all three aspect ratios on every tier. Full breakdown: quso.ai vs OpusClip.
